Job Summary
TalentWise is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented 2D Fabrication Technician to join our team and work onsite with one of our customers. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, programming, and operating laser cutting and waterjet systems used to support rapid prototyping and product development efforts. This role is heavily focused on laser processing, with the majority of work centered around laser operation, while also supporting waterjet and digital fabrication equipment as needed.
The ideal candidate enjoys working in a fast-paced prototyping environment, collaborating with engineers and designers to manufacture high-quality components while supporting the development of new products and technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, program, and operate laser cutting systems, with a primary focus on galvo laser processing and secondary support of waterjet cutting operations.
- Develop and optimize laser cutting programs for a variety of prototype and production applications.
- Manufacture precision components from a variety of materials including metals, plastics, composites, films, adhesives, foams, and fabrics.
- Interpret engineering drawings, CAD files, DXF files, and work instructions to ensure accurate fabrication.
- Work closely with engineers and designers to determine optimal fabrication methods, material selection, and process parameters.
- Perform machine setup, calibration, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Inspect finished parts to verify dimensional accuracy and quality requirements.
- Meet production schedules and deadlines while maintaining a high level of workmanship.
- Maintain organized workspaces and adhere to all safety procedures and regulations.
- Support additional fabrication and prototyping activities as needed.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience operating industrial laser cutting equipment in a manufacturing, prototyping, R&D, or product development environment.
- Demonstrated experience setting up, operating, and troubleshooting laser-based manufacturing processes.
- Experience working from CAD drawings, DXF files, and engineering documentation.
- Ability to inspect and verify part quality using measuring tools and visual inspection techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, designers, and technicians.
- Ability to safely operate manufacturing equipment while adhering to established safety procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in rapid prototyping, R&D, aerospace, automotive, consumer electronics, or advanced manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience operating one or more of the following systems:
- LPKF UV Laser (Galvo Laser)
- OMAX MicroMAX Waterjet
- Trotec CO₂ Laser
- Trumpf Fiber Laser
- Experience with SpectraLINE CAD/CAM software.
- Experience with Fusion 360 for CAD, CAM, or file preparation workflows.
- Experience processing a wide variety of materials including metals, plastics, composites, films, adhesives, foams, and fabrics.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
- Experience troubleshooting machine processes and optimizing cutting parameters.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and continuous improvement mindset.
- Experience supporting engineers and designers in a product development or prototyping environment.

- Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Prolonged periods standing and operating machinery.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to safely work around industrial equipment and fabrication machinery.
